Apple предупредила более полутора десятков индийских политиков, членов политических партий и журналистов о том, что их айфоны могли стать объектами атак со стороны злоумышленников государственного уровня. Об этом пишут сами пострадавшие, а историю рассказывает издание TechCrunch. Что важно — так это время. Всего через несколько месяцев в стране ожидаются выборы и нынешний скандал может сильно изменить политический ландшафт.

Среди тех, кто получил предупреждения от Apple, оказались чуть ли не все оппозиционные лидеры Индии:
— Шаши Тарур, ключевая фигура оппозиционной партии Конгресс;
— Акхилеш Ядав, глава партии Самаджвади;
— Махуа Мойтра, национальный представитель Всеиндийского конгресса Тринамул;
— Приянка Чатурведи из Шив Сены, партии, имеющей заметное влияние;
— Асадуддин Овайси, лидер Всеиндийского Маджлис-и-Иттехадул Муслимин (AIMIM);
— Рагхав Чадха из AAP, который десять лет назад начал борьбу с коррупцией, а затем закрепился в столичном регионе;
— Ситарам Ечури, генеральный секретарь Коммунистической партии Индии.

Рахул Ганди, лидер индийской оппозиции, заявил во вторник на брифинге для СМИ, что его команда тоже получила от Apple соответствующее предупреждение. Журналисты Сиддхарт Варадараджан и Шрирам Карри, а также президент индийского исследовательского фонда Observer Research Foundation (ORF) Самир Саран сообщили, что получили от Apple идентичные предупреждения.

Apple подтвердила факт рассылки уведомлений об угрозах. В своем заявлении компания сообщила, что не связывает эти уведомления с каким-либо конкретным злоумышленником или государством.

«Злоумышленники, спонсируемые государством, очень хорошо финансируются и изощрены, а их атаки со временем эволюционируют. Обнаружение таких атак опирается на сигналы разведки угроз, которые часто бывают несовершенными и неполными. Не исключено, что некоторые уведомления об угрозах Apple могут оказаться ложными срабатываниями, или некоторые атаки не будут обнаружены. Мы не можем предоставить информацию о причинах, побудивших нас выпустить уведомления об угрозах, поскольку это может помочь спонсируемым государством злоумышленникам адаптировать свое поведение, чтобы избежать обнаружения в будущем».

Нью-Дели обвиняют в том, что в течение многих лет на устройства активистов и лидеров оппозиции устанавливалась шпионская программа Pegasus. Ранее Apple рекомендовала пользователям, получившим это предупреждение, активировать режим «Блокировка» (Lockdown), который был введен в 2022 году с целью защиты таких лиц, как журналисты, политики, адвокаты и правозащитники, от вторжения шпионских программ.

В этом режиме запрещается предварительный просмотр ссылок в сообщениях, минимизируется функциональность Safari за счет отключения таких функций, как компиляторы just-in-time (JIT) для предотвращения выполнения вредоносного JavaScript, ограничивается открытие вложений и запрещается прием звонков FaceTime от незнакомых контактов.

С момента включения функции уведомлений об угрозах Apple оповестила об этом жителей почти 150 стран.
